Realizing you have options besides sliced white bread is good. Corn tortillas, lettuce leaves, and rice cakes can still hold all your favorite toppings and sandwich ingredients, and we could all benefit from releasing our attachment to bread as a pantry staple. But I would be hesitant to demonize it completely. Indulging in a high-quality sourdough or pumpernickel when I am craving it has so many times saved me from falling victim to my late-night cravings for cupcakes and cookies. I would reframe it as a healthier alternative to other baked goods, not on the same level as vegetables and whole grains.
